DIY Flower Bar - super easy, super cute!
I'm so excited to share this super easy diy project with you! I was looking for some simple wall art when I came up with this idea but it also works well as free standing decor. The project can also be customised by staining or painting the wood different colours and choosing different flowers.
What you'll need:
- Square stripwood width approx 15mm,
- Dried flowers,
- Sandpaper,
- Command strips if you plan to mount your flower bar on the wall,
- Powered drill with 2mm drill bit,
- Saw, if you need to cut your stripwood to size.
The stripwood can be bigger if you want a heavier base for your flower bar but I would recommend not using anything smaller than 15mm. You'll need a suitable length for your project. For the wall mounted flower bar I used length 40cm and the smaller freestanding flower bar is 15cm.
The dried flowers can really be anything you want although anything too big might topple over. I used bunny tails and pink baby's breath. Using different colours gives you the opportunity to customise it just for you!
I used a 2mm drill bit because that matched the stems of my flowers best. If your flowers are smaller or larger then you might need to use a different size drill bit. If the holes are too small then the stems won't fit but if they're too big, the flowers might capsize!
Method
- Cut the stripwood to the size you want. I used a saw and mitre box to get a clean square cut.
- Use sandpaper to smooth out the cut and any other rough bits on the wood.
- Drill holes in the strip wood where you want your flower stems to go. I spaced them out randomly along the wood. Make sure that you don't drill too far and out the other side of the wood. I recommend measuring the depth of the wood and marking with tape slightly less than that with tape so you know where to stop.
- Cut the dried flower stems to the length you want. Very the lengths so that when they're in the bar they'll stand at different heights.
- Arrange the flowers in the flower bar. There's no wrong way to do this so arrange them just as you like.
- If you want to mount the flower bar on the wall, attach the command strips to the back of the bar. I couldn't find any narrow enough for the bar so I cut one in half to give two narrow strips.
